When Streaming Devices Actually Go on Sale
If you’re not in a rush, timing your purchase around these windows usually gets you the lowest price of the year:

- Back to School (August) — Smaller, but steady discounts across most brands

How to Tell a Real Deal From a Fake One
Retailers inflate “list prices” to make discounts look bigger than they are. Before buying:
- Check price history. Tools like CamelCamelCamel (for Amazon) show whether a “deal” price is actually a recent low or just the device’s normal price with a bigger number crossed out.
- Compare the deal price against Black Friday pricing from the last year or two. If it’s not close to that, it’s not really a deal.
- Watch for “new model, old price” traps. Sometimes the “discounted” older model is barely cheaper than the current model — check both before assuming the old one is the better buy.
